Monte Carlo – Jorge Lorenzo bukan cuma menerima medali juara dunia MotoGP dalam acara FIM Gala Ceremony di Monte Carlo. Di sana Lorenzo juga mendapatkan penghargaan spesial.
Lebih dari 500 tamu disebutkan hadir untuk memberikan penghormatan buat para juara dunia FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme) dalam acara yang digelar di ruangan prestisius, Salle des Etoiles, di Sporting Monte-Carlo.
Para pebalap legendaris seperti Mary McGee, Jim Redman, Torsten Hallman, Dougie Lampkin, Kari Tiainen, Hubert Auriol, dan Hans Nielsen berbagi panggung dengan para jawara saat ini seperti Lorenzo, Max Biaggi, Marc Marquez, Sandro Cortese, dan sederet pebalap roda dua lainnya.
“FIM Gala Ceremony ketiga di Monte Carlo ini adalah momen sempurna untuk memberi selamat dan penghormatan buat para juara 2012 kami, bukan cuma di ‘Salle des Etoiles’, tapi juga di depan jutaan pemirsa di penjuru dunia,” kata Presiden FIM Vito Ippolito di situs resmi MotoGP.
“Sekali lagi saya harus berterima kasih kepada para pebalap dan tim untuk bisa hadir di sini malam ini. Mereka benar-benar memahami pentingnya Gala FIM ini baik untuk FIM maupun olahraga sepeda motor secara keseluruhan,” imbuhnya.
Selain dijadikan ajang buat para kampiun musim ini untuk maju dan mendapatkan medali juaranya, ajang ini juga dijadikan FIM untuk membagikan tiga penghargaan khusus, yakni FIM Rookie of the Year, FIM Woman of the Year, dan FIM Personality of the Year. Ketiga penghargaan itu diberikan berdasarkan atas pilihan media, fans, tim, industri, dan para pebalap.
Penghargaan FIM Rookie of the Year dimenangi oleh Tim Gasjer, Laia Sanz menggondol penghargaan FIM Woman of the Year, sementara Lorenzo mendapatkan penghargaan FIM Personality of the Year.
Sebagai bentuk dukungan agar dunia balap motor lebih peduli dengan lingkungan, FIM juga memberikan penghargaan khusus terkait lingkungan hidup, yakni FIM Environmental Award yang dimenangi oleh Circuits de Catalunya dari Spanyol.
